Hmmm…it doesn’t take a long distance trip on social media these days to have feelings of anxiety and consternation involuntarily bubble up in our gut as we survey the current political landscape. Some of the blue language, attacking insults, acts of violence, and character assassinations–along with common shouts of dark concerns about the near future–all these can easily breed a rising sense of panic in our hearts.
For me, and I suspect for many others, part of the issue is that our emotional outlook is almost as if somehow God has slipped off His throne–we actually lose sight of His complete sovereignty. Let’s wisely remind ourselves that He is, and always will be, on His throne. He still does according to His will among the inhabitants of the earth. His purpose is being established and He is accomplishing all His good pleasure. He is still before all things, far above all rule & authority & power & dominion and every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in the age to come. Proverbs 21:1 remains true even if we don’t fully understand it. Political leaders come and go. The King ever remains on His throne! Rest in that. (Isaiah 46:9-10; Daniel 4:34b-35; Colossians 1:15-17; Ephesians 1:21-22; Proverbs 21:1)
